Baseball Recap: Faith Lutheran Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Faith Lutheran took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Basic, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Crusaders narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Wolves 7-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jordan Watkins tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Faith Lutheran is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 12-13 otherwise.

At the plate, Rouselle Shepard was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Faith Lutheran is 7-1 when Shepard posts two or more runs, but 9-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ace Hansen, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Faith Lutheran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 10-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Faith Lutheran pushed their record up to 16-13 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Basic, their loss dropped their record down to 16-6.
