Baseball Recap: Live Oak Find Success

Live Oak proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by nine) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Piedmont Hills Pirates. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Acorns have posted since May 2, 2024.

Live Oak got a great performance from Bennett Nishikawa as he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Nishikawa a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Live Oak's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Guenet, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs Guenet has posted since back in March of 2024. Another was Jack Rice, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Live Oak is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. Piedmont Hills is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Live Oak wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 5-3 win against Evergreen Valley on the 29th. As for Piedmont Hills, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-1 victory against Gilroy on the 29th.
