Softball Recap: Hanover Central Drops Season-High Score on Hammond Morton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hanover Central). Everything went their way against the Hammond Morton Governors on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Hanover Central got a great performance from Claire Edgerton as she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those ten strikeouts gave Edgerton a new career-high.

At the plate, Brooklyn Oostman was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Jillian Deyoung was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs.

Hanover Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Hanover Central's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Hammond Morton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Hanover Central will host Lowell at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hammond Morton, they will head out on the road to take on Thornton Fractional South at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
