Baseball Recap: El Diamante Sets Scoring Season-High Against Porterville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask El Diamante). They put the hurt on the Porterville Panthers with a sharp 11-2 win on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Eli Palomino spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Noah Pena was a standout: he got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for El Diamante: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-13-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was D'Angelo Dalle Mese, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

El Diamante's win bumped their record up to 10-14-1. As for Porterville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.

El Diamante will challenge Redwood at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Porterville, they will face off against Mt. Whitney at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pioneers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
