Basketball Game Preview: Marshall Rams vs. Stevens Falcons

Marshall and Stevens are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Marshall Rams will venture away from home to challenge the Stevens Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Marshall knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Stevens likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Marshall beat Holmes 70-65.

Marshall's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jason Vidaurri, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 22 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards, and Jai Lopez, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 22 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Vidaurri has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Powell, who posted eight points and seven rebounds.

Marshall smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Stevens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 57-43 to O'Connor. The matchup marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Marshall's victory bumped their record up to 10-15. As for Stevens, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.

Marshall beat Stevens 84-77 in their previous meeting back in January of 2022. Does Marshall have another victory up their sleeve, or will Stevens turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
