Basketball Recap: Nate Davis Key Part of a Team Effort in Pirates Win

Appling County can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They walked away with a 63-52 victory over the Cook Hornets. This was a revenge game for the Pirates: when they faced off against the Hornets two weeks ago, they had to take a 64-63 defeat.

Appling County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nate Davis, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Aldarrius Howell was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to seven assists and five boards.

Appling County was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ryan Thompson J.R., who went 11 of 14 on his way to 27 points and six rebounds. Those 27 points gave Thompson J.R. a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker Rountree, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards.

Appling County's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 7-13. As for Cook, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 15 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season.

Appling County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-60 loss against Tattnall County on the 1st. As for Cook, they will head out on the road to take on Pierce County at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th. One thing working in Pierce County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
