Basketball Recap: Kodiak Falls Despite Big Games from Kelly Ticman and Christian Enriquez

Kodiak was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. The game between them and the Barrow Whalers didn't end well, with the Kodiak Bears falling 59-45. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Whalers are ranked 18th).

Kodiak's loss came despite strong showings from Christian Enriquez and Kelly Ticman. Enriquez posted 14 points, while Ticman put up 12 points.

Leading Barrow to victory were Alex Fruean and Jaziah Tivao. Fruean scored 23 points, while Tivao earned 17 points. Fruean's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Wilhelm, who had seven points.

Kodiak's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Barrow, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Kodiak has already played their next contest, a 44-35 loss against Cordova on the 14th. As for Barrow, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 84-70 victory against Valdez on the 14th.
