Football Game Preview: Cheney Tech Chargers vs. Bullard-Havens Tigers

The Cheney Tech Chargers will challenge the Bullard-Havens Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Cheney Tech is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since October 11, 2024 on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Platt RVT, sneaking past 17-14. The victory continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won seven in a row.

Bullard-Havens never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Thames River co-op [Norwich RVT/Grasso RVT/St. Bernard] on Friday. They claimed a resounding 33-6 win over the Crusaders. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won three matchups by 27 points or more so far this season.

Cheney Tech better keep an eye on Joshua Headley. He was instrumental in Bullard-Havens' win, rushing for 186 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Headley has become a key player for the Tigers: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 0-4 otherwise. Michael Ferreira made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Bullard-Havens was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 298 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

One reason for the win was Bullard-Havens' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 4.5 sacks. Kamarri Burnett was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Another thorn in Thames River co-op [Norwich RVT/Grasso RVT/St. Bernard]'s side was Jeremiah Duverce, who picked up 0.5 sacks and made eight total tackles (2.5 for loss).

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-5. As for Cheney Tech, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Cheney Tech suffered a grim 28-7 defeat to Bullard-Havens when the teams last played back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Headley, who rushed for 177 yards and a pair of TDs.
