Baseball Game Preview: Logan County Cougars vs. Kirkwood Cobras

The Logan County Cougars will challenge the Kirkwood Cobras at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Logan County will be strutting in after a win while Kirkwood will be coming in after a loss.

Logan County had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Allen County-Scottsville on Thursday. The Cougars blew past the Patriots 12-2.

Jonas Hayes looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Noah Mosley, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyndon Wilson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

Springfield hit Kirkwood with a four-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cobras wound up with the same score they had in their last game (5-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

Gus Smith made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

Logan County has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Kirkwood, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-12.
