Recap: Van Horn Eagles vs. Varsity Opponent
The Van Horn Eagles lost to Varsity Opponent back in December of 2016, but the Van Horn Eagles didn't allow Varsity Opponent the same satisfaction on Saturday. Van Horn walked away with a 37-29 win over Varsity Opponent.
Taylor Martinez was the offensive standout of the game as she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 21 rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Malia Bermudez, who scored two points along with ten rebounds and seven steals.
The victory got Van Horn back to even at 5-5. As for Varsity Opponent, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost 21 of their last 25 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 43-172-3 record this season.
Van Horn will play host again and welcome Big Bend, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Varsity Opponent's road trip will continue as they head out to face Mt. Zion Prep Academy at 5:20 p.m. on December 9th. Mt. Zion Prep Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.1 points per game.
