Rusk unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost to the Kaufman Lions at home by a 20-6 margin on Friday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

Ross Davis threw for 47 yards and one TD. Adrian Tumblin was his top target, picking up 37 receiving yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Drew Lane rushed for 28 yards.

A big part of Kaufman's victory came down to the chemistry between Cole Martin and his top target Dominic Saidu. Martin rushed for 60 yards and one score while Saidu gained 86 total yards. Those 60 rushing yards gave Martin a new career-high.
