Softball Game Preview: Sacred Heart Trojans vs. Montgomery Tigers

The Sacred Heart Trojans will face off against the Montgomery Tigers at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Sacred Heart's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.

On Friday, Sacred Heart got the win against St. Mary by a conclusive 12-1. Considering the Trojans have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Amelia Fontenot made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jolie Vidrine, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Ellie Wilmouth was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

Sacred Heart lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Montgomery scored first but ultimately less than Anacoco in their matchup on Friday. They came up short against the Indians, falling 13-3.

Montgomery has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. Sacred Heart's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4.

Sacred Heart couldn't quite finish off Montgomery when the teams last played back in March of 2019 and fell 6-4. Can Sacred Heart avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
