Baseball Preview: Salem Wildcats vs. Freeburg Midgets
Salem has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Freeburg Midgets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Salem will be strutting in after a win while Freeburg will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Saturday, Salem narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Triad 8-6.
Cody Beard was incredible, going 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Inlow, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Freeburg had to settle for a 5-3 loss against Roxana on Thursday. Freeburg has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gabe Lueth made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Sam Rauckman was another key contributor, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
The win got Salem back to even at 6-6. As for Freeburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
