Basketball Recap: Murrieta Mesa Takes a Loss

Murrieta Mesa was the 62-53 winner over Santa Fe Christian when they last played one another back in March of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Murrieta Mesa Rams took a hard 64-49 fall against the Santa Fe Christian Eagles on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 615th, while the Eagles are ranked 64th).

Despite the loss, Murrieta Mesa saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Andrei Aguilera posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ray Riley, who put up ten points and three steals.

Murrieta Mesa's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Santa Fe Christian, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

Murrieta Mesa wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-55 loss against Aliso Niguel on the 26th. As for Santa Fe Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-47 defeat against San Joaquin Memorial on the 26th.
