Preview: San Juan Hills Stallions vs. St. Francis Golden Knights
Two dominant signal callers in Timmy Herr and John Sanders are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The San Juan Hills Stallions will be playing at home against the St. Francis Golden Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
San Juan Hills stacked a sixth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 49-0 win over Aliso Niguel. Given San Juan Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Aliso Niguel is ranked 252nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sullivan Land and Herr were among the main playmakers for San Juan Hills as the former gained 142 total yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Land was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Jeremiah Lindsay was in the mix as well, providing San Juan Hills with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, St. Francis unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 37-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Paul.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was John Calmette, who rushed for 53 yards and three touchdowns. Sanders was another key contributor, throwing for 195 yards on only 18 passes.
San Juan Hills' win was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.6 points per game. As for St. Francis, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: San Juan Hills has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like St. Francis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 153.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
