Volleyball Recap: Valentine's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

There's no place like home for Valentine, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top against the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves by a score of 2-0 on Saturday.

While Valentine won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-18.

Mia Sherbeyn paced Valentine's offense, picking up 15 kills. Sherbeyn got some help from Devahney Belville and her 22 assists. Ashlyn Hutchinson controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Despite the loss, Maywood/Hayes Center saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ensley Lawless had 12 digs and one assist. Lawless is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Valentine's victory ended a five-match drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-5. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-3.

Valentine didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-1 loss against Chase County on the 20th. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Decatur Community on the 20th.
