Basketball Recap: David Emanuel Academy Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact David Emanuel Academy can now relate to. They took a hard 56-39 fall against the Covenant Academy Rams on Thursday. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rams earlier this season, when they won 56-54.

Despite the defeat, David Emanuel Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ethan Fields posted 22 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Clayton Hood, who had six points and five boards.

Covenant Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ben McGhee, who went 10-for-19 on his way to 24 points and five steals. McGhee has become a key player for Covenant Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least five steals, but 5-12 otherwise. Alex Gale also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

David Emanuel Academy is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-16. As for Covenant Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season.

Coming up, David Emanuel Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against John Hancock Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Covenant Academy, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Thomas Jefferson Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Thomas Jefferson Academy will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Covenant Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
