Basketball Game Preview: Springville Red Devils vs. Syracuse Titans

The Springville Red Devils will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against the Syracuse Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Tuesday, Springville came up short against Lone Peak and fell 75-64. While the Red Devils didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Knights 21-17 in the first quarter.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Swift Hall, who shot 62% from the field to rack up 21 points and six assists. He is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Jamyn Sondrup was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Syracuse, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They snuck past East with an 83-77 win on Wednesday.

Springville better focus on containing Skyler Orton and Colton Hoenigman as the pair were huge in Syracuse's win. Orton went 8-for-19 en route to 28 points and six boards, while Hoenigman dropped a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most points Orton has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bracken Lessey, who scored six points.

Syracuse now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Springville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Springville couldn't quite finish off Syracuse in their previous matchup back in December of 2016 and fell 61-59. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
