Baseball Recap: Haverling Victorious

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Haverling and Dansville meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Rams came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 6-3. This was a revenge game for the Rams: when they faced off against the Mustangs two weeks ago, they had to take a 14-7 defeat.

Dylan Wenban and Gage Thomas were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Wenban pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Thomas tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Wenban is becoming a predictor of Haverling's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 6-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). At the plate, Wenban went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Thomas got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Wenban has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lukas Wightman, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Asher Phenes was another, earning one run and two stolen bases.

Haverling's record is now 8-9. As for Dansville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.

Haverling is taking a road trip to square off against Le Roy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Oatkan Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Dansville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
