Basketball Recap: Zion Chapel Rebels vs. Elba Tigers

The Zion Chapel Rebels fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Elba Tigers on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Tigers 79-73. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (57), Zion Chapel still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Zion Chapel had strong showings from Slade Grantham, who shot 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double on 32 points and nine rebounds, and Jacob Chestnut, who scored 21 points along with two steals. Chestnut has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Mason Stuart was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Zion Chapel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Zion Chapel's loss dropped their record down to 20-8. As for Elba, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 16-9 record this season.

Zion Chapel will take on the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elba, they will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Florala has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while the Tigers will arrive with three straight victories.
