Basketball Recap: Isaiah Montoya Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Thomas Maclaren School

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Fowler on Saturday. They walked away with a 55-45 victory over the Thomas MacLaren School Highlanders. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Highlanders are ranked 226th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fowler got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaiah Montoya out in front who posted 20 points and five boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Montoya has scored at least a third of Fowler's points. Hagen McCuistion was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Several Highlanders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nathaniel Stokes, who went 7 for 12 en route to 17 points. Another player making a difference was Lance Mathews, who earned eight points and 11 rebounds.

Fowler pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points per game. As for Thomas MacLaren School, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Fowler will take on Sanford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fowler has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Thomas MacLaren School, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 82-8 win against Monument Academy on the 13th.
