Basketball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for New Covenant

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Covenant). They put the hurt on the Southwest Virginia Academy Conquerors with a sharp 65-40 victory on Friday. The Gryphons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 22 points or more this season.

New Covenant was led to victory by Tristan Isenhour and Cole Murdock. Isenhour dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 boards, while Murdock dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Murdock is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Rusty Hooks, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Despite the loss, Southwest Virginia Academy still got an impressive performance from Gabriel Bishop, who earned 25 points and seven rebounds.

The win was the sixth in a row for New Covenant, bringing their record for this year to 6-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Southwest Virginia Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.

New Covenant will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lynchburg HomeSchool at 7:30 p.m. on December 17th. As for Southwest Virginia Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 73-68 loss against Christchurch School on the 7th.
