Softball Recap: Palmetto Ridge Has No Trouble Against Naples

After losing to Naples the last time they met, Palmetto Ridge decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Palmetto Ridge put the hurt on Naples with a sharp 14-6 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Karsyn Walters and Tessa Delashmet made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Walters tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Delashmet struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Walters scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Delashmet scored a run while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Skyler Howell, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Rebecca Razzano was another key player, scoring four runs while going 2-for-4.

Palmetto Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Palmetto Ridge back to even at 5-5. As for Naples, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Coincidentally, Palmetto Ridge and Naples will both be playing Old Forge the next time they take the field. Naples will host Old Forge at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Palmetto Ridge will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
