League recap: Gulf Coast scores huge upset over Estero

6A District 13 recap October 8, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Gulf Coast, who took down 276th ranked Estero, 36-19. Brendon Drugan ran for 110 yards and caught 2 passes for 14 yards during the win.

The Sharks scaled the state rankings by moving to 274 from 332 this week, the biggest jump in 6A District 13. Gulf Coast climbed the ranks as a result of besting the Wildcats 36-19.

Garrett Zech was a passing and rushing force as Naples bested Lely. He completed 5 passes for 76 yards and also ran for 83 yards. Zech's favorite target this week was Tyler Byrd, who caught 4 passes for 67 yards.

Brian Chancy put up the best numbers through the air as Barron Collier lost to Palmetto Ridge. He had a total of 10 completions for 116 yards. Chancy's favorite target this week was Ian Williams, who caught 5 passes for 55 yards.

Palmetto Ridge's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Bears feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Andy Garcia has thrown for 867 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Tony Lesende has 23 catches for 437 yards.

The Golden Eagles took down the Trojans 49-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Max Joseph ran for 145 yards in the win.
