Basketball Recap: Amirah Pena's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vista PEAK Prep over Denver East

Vista PEAK Prep lost against Denver East back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Vista PEAK Prep Bison fell 68-59 to the Denver East Angels. The Bison have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Bison players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amirah Pena, who posted 20 points. Eianna Jackson was another key player, putting up 18 points and seven rebounds.

Leading Denver East to victory were Evelina Otto and Mairead Hearty. Otto dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 boards, while Hearty dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Otto is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nasi Samuels, who earned six points and seven rebounds.

Vista PEAK Prep's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Denver East, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vista PEAK Prep will welcome Northfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vista PEAK Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season. As for Denver East, they will host Denver South at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Denver East's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups.
