Baseball Recap: Ligonier Valley Comes Up Short

Ligonier Valley was the 9-6 winner over Derry when they last played one another back in April of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Ligonier Valley fell just short of Derry by a score of 7-5 on Monday.

Ligonier Valley got a good showing from Miles Smith, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Levi Moser and Austin Harr did some serious damage despite the final result: Moser went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Harr scored a run while going 2-for-3. Those two RBI gave Moser a new career-high. Jacob Petalino also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Ligonier Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Derry, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Coming up, Ligonier Valley will square off against Uniontown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Derry, they will challenge Mt. Pleasant at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
