Ethan Shaefer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, North Thurston got a massive performance out of Grady Wright, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Wright a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tucker Kemph, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
North Thurston hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Tenino made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hoquiam on Tuesday. The Beavers were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Grizzlies.
Like North Thurston, Tenino also got a great game from a two-way player: Mikey Vassar. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Vassar was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one run.
In other pitching news, Zeke Haskins looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Will Feltus, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Austin Gonia was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
North Thurston's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Tenino, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. North Thurston has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Tenino struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
