Baseball Game Preview: Rancho Cotate Cougars vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals

For the second straight game, Rancho Cotate will face off against Cardinal Newman. The Cougars will square off against the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Rancho Cotate came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-1 to Cardinal Newman. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cougars have suffered since March 5th.

For Cardinal Newman's part, Josh Jannicelli tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Jannicelli has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cardinal Newman got a big performance out of Caden Owen, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Matai Fa'agata, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Rancho Cotate's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8. As for Cardinal Newman, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
