Recap: Crowley Gent vs. St. Martinville Tigers
The Crowley Gent pushed their score all the way to 39 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were beaten by St. Martinville 67-39. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Crowley in their matchups with St. Martinville: they've now lost six in a row.
St. Martinville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Steven Blanco, who rushed for 355 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 18.7 yards per carry. Blanco really tore up the turf during one magnificent 79-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Zenon, who rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries.
Crowley's defeat was their 11th straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Cecilia and 8-2 Abbeville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.1% over those games). As for St. Martinville, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-7.
Crowley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. St. Martinville will head out on the road to face off against Leesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Leesville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
