Football Recap: Smyer Takes a Loss

Smyer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Seagraves Eagles 41-6. The Bobcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Skyler Pond threw for 127 yards and one touchdown. Ryann Gutierrez was his top target, picking up 84 receiving yards and one score. On the ground, Xyler Rumsey rushed for 81 yards.

Smyer's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Seagraves, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2-1 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Smyer will face off against rival Plains at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Seagraves is set to square off against their familiar foe Ropes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Seagraves 9.2, Ropes 8.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
