Softball Game Preview: West Wolfpack vs. Lodi Flames

West is 0-10 against Lodi since April of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Wolfpack will head out on the road to square off against the Flames at 4:00 p.m. West has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

West is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Thursday. They lost 13-3 to Lincoln.

Bailey Dunn was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Malia Morreira, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Lodi had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 9-3 win. Considering the Flames have won five games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ashlyn Jubrey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Abby Schweigerdt was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Maddie Ehlers also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Lodi kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

Lodi's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for West, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

West suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Lodi when the teams last played last Tuesday. Can the Wolfpack avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
