Football Game Preview: Rushville Lions vs. Greensburg Pirates

The Rushville Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Greensburg Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rushville will be strutting in after a win while Greensburg will be coming in after a defeat.

Rushville will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating South Dearborn, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Lions secured a 26-21 W over the Knights on Friday. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Lions were down 21-6 in the third quarter.

A big part of Rushville's win came down to the chemistry between Owen Zachery and his top target Kai Pernell. Zachery threw for 206 yards and three TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes while Pernell picked up 77 receiving yards and one touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Zachery a new career-high in passer rating (157.9).

Rushville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Zachery and Pernell. Sam Pavey was another major factor on D, forcing two fumbles and making 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Greensburg fell victim to East Central and their airtight defense on Friday. They took a blow against the Trojans, falling 61-0. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Trojans are ranked 20th).

Greensburg's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Rushville, their record now sits at 2-6.

Everything came up roses for Rushville against Greensburg in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 58-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
