Jefferson is a perfect 10-0 against Blake since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Jefferson Dragons will head out on the road to square off against the Blake Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Jefferson is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Middleton on Tuesday. Jefferson never let Middleton get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. Considering the Dragons have won three contests by more than ten runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophia Alvarado made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Alvarado was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Those hits marked the first that she got this season.
In other batting news, Madisen Fleming was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Anais Ortiz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Blake made easy work of Brandon on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The Yellow Jackets haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Like Jefferson, Blake also got a great game from a two-way player: C Hobbs. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over 5.2 innings pitched. Hobbs was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Z Newton, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. K Pena was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Five bases. while going 2-for-3.
Jefferson now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Blake, their record now sits at 2-3.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jefferson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .436. However, it's not like Blake struggles in that department as they've averaged .418. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jefferson took their victory against Blake in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 12-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jefferson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
