It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Palma ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They slipped by the Salinas Cowboys 42-41. The Chieftains' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Eli Dukes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 325 yards and four TDs while picking up 14.1 yards per carry. Those 325 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Palma proved: they limited Salinas to a paltry 2.3 yards per carry. The Chieftains didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.9.

Despite the defeat, Salinas saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Michael Andrade threw for 402 yards and five touchdowns while completing 76.3% of his passes. The Cowboys' leading receiver Jacob Robles was Andrade's top target yet again, picking up 143 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Palma's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Salinas, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Palma didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 37-14 victory against North Salinas on the 24th. As for Salinas, they have also already played their next contest, a 49-35 win against Aptos on the 23rd.
