Springfield Southeast hasn't had much luck against Glenwood recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will head out to challenge the Titans at 4:30 p.m.
Springfield Southeast made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Taylorville, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Spartans fell just short of the Tornadoes by a score of 8-6 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Spartans have suffered against the Tornadoes since April 10, 2015.

T Herrington was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Springfield Southeast is 5-2 when Herrington posts two or more runs, but 2-13 otherwise.
In other batting news, E Murphy made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI. A Dunphy also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Glenwood put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let Granite City get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Springfield Southeast, Glenwood also got a great game from a two-way player: Dylan Huff. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Huff was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Dalton Nunes was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Tucker Murphy was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Glenwood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Springfield Southeast, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-15.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Springfield Southeast has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Glenwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Springfield Southeast suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Glenwood in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
