Baseball Recap: Muir Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Muir, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Glendale Nitros with a sharp 11-1 win on Friday. Considering the Mustangs have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Conrad Hunziker was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Muir is 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Hunziker was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Luca Cano was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Donovan Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

Muir always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Muir has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Glendale, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Muir will head out to square off against Lancaster at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Glendale, they will venture away from home to take on Bosco Tech at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Nitros' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
