Football Recap: Burke Comes Up Short

Burke had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-5 to make it seven. They were outmatched by the Philip Simmons Iron Horses and fell 63-0. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 244th, while the Iron Horses are ranked 116th).

As for Philip Simmons, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 25 points or more this season.

Hayes Goddard produced another solid performance throwing for 195 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes, while also rushing for 31 yards. What's more, he racked up 151.4 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Patrick Clarke got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Burke is set to face off against their familiar foe Woodland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Philip Simmons will challenge rival Academic Magnet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Goddard and Owen George.
