Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Gibson Southern Titans        
        
		
            
 Mt. Vernon's game  last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them  in their first game  on Saturday. They skirted past the Gibson Southern Titans  4-3. For Mt. Vernon, this counts as revenge for the   11-3 defeat Gibson Southern walked away with the last time they faced one another  back in April of 2023.
 The team  relied heavily on  Luke Weintraut, who  scored a  run while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances.
 On Gibson Southern's side,  Cam Truxal was a  force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he  struck out seven batters over  5.1 innings while giving up  three earned runs off   four  hits (and only one walk). Truxal has been consistent recently: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in four consecutive pitching appearances.
 On the hitting side,  Brayden Campbell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  went 2-for-2 with a  stolen base and two  RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of  Crewe Hasenour, who  scored three  runs while going 2-for-4.
 Even though they lost, Gibson Southern  didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and  finished the game with eight  strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Vernon only tossed three.
 The  victory  got Mt. Vernon back to even at 3-3. As for Gibson Southern, they now  have a losing record at 4-5.
 Mt. Vernon didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  match,  a  13-3  loss vs. Evansville Mater Dei on the 13th. As for Gibson Southern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Evansville North at 5:00  p.m.  on Monday. Evansville North's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5  runs per game  this season, so Gibson Southern's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
