Football Recap: San Ysidro Skates Past Sweetwater with Ease

San Ysidro was handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Sweetwater on Tuesday. The Cougars claimed a resounding 58-6 victory over the Red Devils. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by 32 points or more this season.

San Ysidro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Vida Sanchez out in front who threw for 252 yards and six touchdowns while completing 73.1% of her passes, and also rushed for 33 yards and one TD. With that strong performance, Sanchez is now averaging an impressive 3.3 passing touchdowns per game. Another receiver making a difference was Kristine Fadriquela, who picked up 116 receiving yards and three scores.

San Ysidro didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Isabella Guzman led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by herself. She got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

San Ysidro picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 5-2. As for Sweetwater, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, San Ysidro will venture away from home to challenge Mira Mesa at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sweetwater, they will welcome Mar Vista at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
