Basketball Recap: South Fort Myers Takes a Loss

South Fort Myers was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 54-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gateway Eagles. The Wolfpack were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.

When it comes to explaining why South Fort Myers lost, don't look at Ja?Mahdi Ward. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Ward is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 19 games he's played dating back to last season. Wildelson Thermidor was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, South Fort Myers smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for EJ Monteagudo, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards for Gateway. Another player making a difference was Ezechiel Dorestant, who posted eight points and four steals.

South Fort Myers' loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Gateway, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

South Fort Myers didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-68 defeat against Dunbar on the 13th. As for Gateway, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 63-48 win against Island Coast on the 13th.
