Football Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 46-6 defeat at the hands of the Hamilton Township Rangers. The 76ers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-6.

When it comes to explaining why Independence lost, don't look at Gabriel Ogbara. Despite the final result, he rushed for 144 yards and one TD while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Ogbara was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards.

Hamilton Township's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kal-El Beverly led the charge by rushing for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Beverly is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 125 every time he's taken the field this season. Jovon McBride was another key player, picking up 82 receiving yards and three scores.

Having lost for the first time this season, Independence fell to 2-1. As for Hamilton Township, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Independence and Hamilton Township will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The 76ers are set to square off against their familiar foe Marion-Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hamilton Township will take on rival Fairfield Union at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
