Baseball Recap: Port Byron Gets the Win

While Port Byron's win against Cato-Meridian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers skirted past the Blue Devils 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since May 16, 2024.

Connor Usowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. Port Byron is undefeated when Usowski posts ten or more strikeouts, but 1-3 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Matt Howell, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Tyler Hennigan, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Port Byron and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Cato-Meridian, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
