Preview: Antwerp Archers vs. Ayersville Pilots
The Antwerp Archers and the Ayersville Pilots will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Antwerp will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Antwerp posted their biggest victory since December 28, 2023 on Saturday. They put the hurt on Patrick Henry with a sharp 61-41 victory. Given Antwerp's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while Patrick Henry is ranked 476th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Antwerp's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Landon Brewer led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Brewer has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zaine McMichael, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Ayersville came up short against Jefferson on Saturday and fell 48-41. Ayersville has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Antwerp's win bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Ayersville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Antwerp didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Ayersville in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 63-59 win.
