Mead is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Holy Family is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mavericks will face off against the Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mead's defense has only allowed 8.4 points per game this season, so Holy Family's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Mead is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 52-10 win over Lewis-Palmer. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Mavericks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Rangers are ranked 73rd).
Mead's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryan St. Aubin, who picked up 174 receiving yards and two scores, and also punched in one TD on the ground. St. Aubin really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 76 yards. Noah Chapala was another key rusher, rushing for 136 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries.
Mead didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Lewis-Palmer to a completion percentage of just 38.1%. The team can thank Jordan Patterson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mead has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.6 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.6 in their last three games.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Mead, adding 16 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Cooper Modrzejewski, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Holy Family's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 28-21 win over Thompson Valley.
Mead's record is now 9-2. As for Holy Family, their record now sits at 10-1.
Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground. Mead has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 222.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Holy Family struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 177.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mead came up short against Holy Family in their previous meeting back in October, falling 27-21. Can the Mavericks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
