Basketball Recap: Fairfax Christian's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

It was a good run, but Fairfax Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak dating back to last season on Monday. They took an 85-77 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Stephen's & St. Agnes Saints. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (76), the Cardinals still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Fairfax Christian still got an impressive performance from Messiah Dixon, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 21 points in addition to five assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Daylen Martino, who posted eight points.

Riley Jacobs was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 33 points and ten rebounds for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes. Jacobs is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least ten every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Julian Burgdolf, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.

Having lost for the first time this season, Fairfax Christian fell to 3-1. As for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.

Fairfax Christian won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Virginia Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Virginia Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games. As for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, they will welcome Benedictine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
