Softball Recap: Whitwell Comes Up Short

Whitwell fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against South Pittsburg on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 3-2. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Jasie Willis spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits.

On the hitting side, Whitwell saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Grace Harvey, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Whitwell dropped their record down to 3-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for South Pittsburg, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-6.

Looking ahead, Whitwell will welcome Bradley Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Pittsburg, they are taking a road trip to challenge Baylor at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
