Recap: Cary Academy Chargers vs. Thales Academy Apex Titans
The Cary Academy Chargers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 41-29 to Thales Academy Apex. While losing is never fun, Cary Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 373rd, while Thales Academy Apex is ranked 184th).
Cary Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sadie McMahon, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Annalise Dematteis, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Thales Academy Apex to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anna Maass, who scored 18 points along with nine steals. Maass is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games she's played. Julia Bandholz was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with ten rebounds and six steals.
Cary Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Thales Academy Apex, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cary Academy will face off against Ravenscroft at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Ravenscroft focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Wednesday. As for Thales Academy Apex, they will head out on the road to square off against St. Thomas More Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
