The Brownstown Central Braves will face off against the Charlestown Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brownstown Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Monday just wasn't the day for Brownstown Central's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Floyd Central on Monday. The Braves' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Shyla Steele spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Charlestown, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let New Washington get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Wednesday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.
Aleyah Glotzbach looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had over her last five games.
On the hitting side, Ella Shaw was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Watkins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Charlestown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Charlestown pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Brownstown Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.
Both Brownstown Central and Charlestown just can't seem to miss. The Braves have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Charlestown struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Brownstown Central suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Charlestown in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Braves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
