Baseball Recap: Claysburg-Kimmel's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Claysburg-Kimmel had lost five games straight , but after bumping their record up to 8-8 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Southern Huntingdon County Rockets as they made off with a 12-1 victory. The Bulldogs not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th (when they won 19-0).

Brayden Haney made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Haney was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Ayden Soler and Mason Campagna did most of the damage at the plate: Soler went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and one run, while Campagna went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Campagna is becoming a predictor of Claysburg-Kimmel's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Gavin Treon was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Claysburg-Kimmel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

As for Southern Huntingdon County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

On Southern Huntingdon County's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daylin Hamilton, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Claysburg-Kimmel will venture away from home to square off against Mount Union at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southern Huntingdon County, they will be taking part in a tournament against Portage at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
