Softball Recap: Hopewell Blue Devils vs. Lancaster Red Devils
Hopewell extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-12 in the process. They came up short against the Lancaster Red Devils, falling 15-0. If the Blue Devils were looking for revenge after losing 17-4 to the Red Devils when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Lancaster, they moved to 10-9 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
For Lancaster's part, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Keyser, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave Keyser a new career-high. Ayla Saunders was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hopewell will take on Highland Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Springers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.64 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lancaster, they will challenge Colonial Beach at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Considering the Red Devils have lost three straight at home and the Drifters seven straight on the road, this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum.
